Germany, Wehrmacht. A Pair of Dress Bayonets

(Wehrmacht Bajonette). A pair of dress bayonets, including:

1 A short version measuring 34.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 20 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains some factory original sharpening to the tip and lower edge. A narrow fuller runs the majority of the upper edge of each side. Fully unmarked, the blade sits securely within a nickel-plated non-magnetic metal alloy hilt with a hooked quillon and pommel. A hollow insertion slot set into the pommel retains an original red wool insert and functional push-button spring release. Two pieces of pebbled black bakelite compose the handle grip, and are fastened in place with dual magnetic metal rivets. Accompanying the bayonet is its original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft. A downward-pointing hook emanates from the side of the shaft for the accommodation of a frog. The former is included and is constructed of multiple panels of blackened leather, stitched into a loop for belt suspension. A functional spring catch situated within the throat firmly holds the bayonet in place during storage. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks and loss of nickel plating to the blade (the latter resulting in minor surface oxidation), the loss of the buffer pad, moderate loss of nickel plating and paint to the hilt and scabbard, and some fatigue of the frog. The bayonet remains in a very fine condition.

2. A long version measuring 40 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 25 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains factory-original sharpening to the tip and lower edge. A wide fuller runs the majority of the length of the upper edge of each side of the blade. Fully unmarked, the blade sits securely within a nickel-plated non-magnetic metal alloy hilt with a hooked quillon and pommel, with an intact black leather buffer pad covering the seam. A hollow insertion slot is set into the pommel and retains a functional magnetic push-button spring release. Two pieces of pebbled black bakelite compose the handle grip, and are fastened in place with dual non-magnetic metal rivets. Accompanying the bayonet is its original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft. A downward-pointing hook emanates from the side of the shaft for the accommodation of a frog. The throat retains a functional spring catch to firmly hold the bayonet in place during storage. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks to the blade and moderate loss of scabbard paint. The bayonet remains in a better than very fine condition.
