Description

(yeselemoni maḫitemi ti‘izazi / የሰለሞን ማኅተም ትዕዛዝ). Instituted in 1884. Two-piece construction, in bronze gilt, insignia with ball finials at each of the star points, maker marked "MADE IN ETHIOPIA / B.A. SEVADJIAN" on the reverse, measuring 51.5 mm (w) x 79.5 mm (h) inclusive of its crown suspension, contact marks, on a replacement full-length neck ribbon, near very fine.

Footnote: The Order of Solomon's Seal was instituted in 1874 by Emperor Yohannes IV and awarded in four grades: Knight Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander and Knight. It is believed that the Grand Cross grade only is awarded today.
