Description
Instituted April 17, 1900. In silver, with white enamelled rays and a blue and red enamelled center piece on the obverse and a blank reverse with an enamelled floral suspension. This decoration measures at 42.8mm (w) x 64.3mm (h- to top of suspension), weighs 76.2 grams (including ribbon) and is on its period ribbon with a hook and eye. The decoration features very minor wear, entact enamels, and remains in extremely fine condition.
The medal is presented in its case of issue, a blue velvet covered box with silk lid interior with Korean characters, the base is a burgundy velvet with recessed medal bed and storage compartment for ribbon. It is accompanied by a bow ribbon lapel pin measuring at 16.4mm on a screwback and an extra suspension. All pieces are contained within a wooden box measuring at 111.5mm (w) x 149.2mm (l) x 48.4mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: This Order was conferred in recognition of civil or military merit, and it is also known as the Order of the Flag. The reverse features Chinese characters signifying the class of the award. It also features an inscription in Chinese characters, which translates to "Order of Merit".
