Description

Instituted December 2, 1849. Military Division. In bronze, a red enamelled cross with a black endamelled eagle, holding a chain in its mouth with the inscription VIRIBUS UNITIS, the obverse medallion features the initials FJ, the reverse medallion presents the year 1849, surmounting crown, marked with makers mark WILM. KUNZ and WIEN, with a bronze star, measures 32.1mm (w) x 57.0 mm (h - inclusive of integral crown), weighs 20.9 grams (inclusive of ribbon), worn on a triangular ribbon with stripes denoting military division, missing the top of the chain across the 12 o’clock arm, enamels intact, remains in very fine condition.
