A lot of six Austrian Imperial Bravery Medals, consisting of:
1. (Tapferkeitsmedaille). Instituted July 19th, 1789. Type IV (1914-1916 issue). A Bravery Medal, a round bronze medal, with a fixed horizontal pierced bar and swivel ring for suspension from its period original ribbon featuring a repetition clasp for the second award of this type, the obverse depicting a rightward-facing effigy of Kaiser Franz Joseph of Austria, circumscribed “Franz Joseph I.V.G.G Kaiser v. Oesterreich”, marked “Tautenhayn” near the bottom, the reverse inscribed “Der Tapferkeit” (For Bravery) within a laurel wreath with banners at the base, unmarked, measuring 31.3 mm in diameter, weighing 15.08 grams, in overall near very fine condition.
2. (Tapferkeitsmedaille). Instituted July 19th, 1789. Type IV (1914-1916 issue). A Bravery Medal I Class, a round silver medal, with a fixed pierced ball and swivel ring for suspension from its period original ribbon featuring a repetition clasp for the second award of this type, the obverse depicting a rightward facing effigy of Kaiser Franz Joseph of Austria, circumscribed “Franz Joseph I.V.G.G Kaiser v. Oesterreich”, marked “Leisek” near the bottom, the reverse inscribed “Der Tapferkeit” (For Bravery) within a laurel wreath with banners at the base, unmarked, measuring 40.2 mm in diameter, weighing 18.14 grams, contact marks from wear and age but in overall very fine condition.
3. (Tapferkeitsmedaille). Instituted July 19th, 1789. Type IV (1914-1916 issue). A Bravery Medal, a round bronze medal, with a fixed horizontal pierced bar and swivel ring for suspension from its period original ribbon featuring a dual repetition clasp for the third award of this type, the obverse depicting a rightward-facing effigy of Kaiser Franz Joseph of Austria, circumscribed “Franz Joseph I.V.G.G Kaiser v. Oesterreich”, marked “Tautenhayn” near the bottom, the reverse inscribed “Der Tapferkeit” (For Bravery) within a laurel wreath with banners at the base, unmarked, measuring 31.3 mm in diameter, weighing 15.88 grams, in overall near very fine condition.
4. (Tapferkeitsmedaille). Instituted July 19th, 1789. Type IV (1914-1916 issue). A Bravery Medal II Class, a round silver medal, with a fixed horizontal pierced bar and swivel ring for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse depicting a rightward-facing effigy of Kaiser Franz Joseph of Austria, circumscribed “Franz Joseph I.V.G.G Kaiser v. Oesterreich”, marked “Tautenhayn” near the bottom, the reverse inscribed “Der Tapferkeit” (For Bravery) within a laurel wreath with banners at the base, unmarked, measuring 31.4 mm in diameter, weighing 18.10 grams, the ribbon is frayed with paper and glue remains on the reverse evident from previous collector mounting, but the award is in overall near very fine condition.
5. (Tapferkeitsmedaille). Instituted July 19th, 1789. Karl I Variant (1917-1918 issue). A Bravery Medal, consisting of a round medal constructed of bronze, with a pierced ball suspension and a swivel ring for suspension from its period original tri-fold ribbon, the tri-fold ribbon of the Bravery Medal is sewn to the ribbon of the Army Cross “Canonenkreuz”, the obverse with a rightward-facing effigy of Karl I circumscribed by his name and title, the reverse inscribed “Fortitudini” (Fortitude) within a laurel wreath with banners at the base, unmarked, measuring 31.3 mm in diameter, weighing 15.45 grams. With an Army Cross (Kanonenkreuz). Instituted May 31st, 1814, a Cross Pattée constructed of zinc with a laurel wreath between the arms of the cross, on an oval swivel bar for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse inscribed “Grati, Princepset Patria, Carolvs Imp. et Rex” in capital letters, the reverse bearing the inscription “Vitam et Sanvinem” and dated “MDCCCCVXI”, measuring 29.0 mm (w) x 29.1 mm (l), in overall better than fine condition.
