(Ritterorden vom Goldenen Vlies). Instituted January 10th, 1429. Of very fine quality manufacture and very fine quality enamels, an exquisite Order of the Golden Fleece constructed of gilded bronze, consisting of an Austria’s typical facing-front heraldic figure of the Golden Fleece with details for the fur texture, attached on the top to a set of highly detailed Burgundy flames applique in splendid red enamels, with a central bulge medallion in black enamels and delineate enameled white sparks, surmounted by an adorned partially-enamelled decorative link in the form of a fire-steel striker, showing in relief a portrayal of Jason fighting the dragon beneath of the inscription “Pretium Laborum Non Vile” (No Mean Reward for Labours), on the reverse is a portrayal in relief of Gideon fighting the Midianites and above it the inscription “Non Aluid” (I will have no other), accompanied by a nicely ornamented partially-enamelled knot on the ribbon, measuring 60 mm (w) x 103 mm, weighing 44.55 including its neck ribbon, in mint condition
Accompanied by its presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden frame with a burgundy textured faux leather exterior, the exterior of the lid embossed with a double-headed Austrian eagle in gilt, the interior of the lid with a cushioned and silk-lined liner, marked by Rothe’s logo and maker mark, with functional dual exterior hinges and intact interior hinge cover, the medal bed is lined with black fleece and recessed to accomodate the award, measuring 80 mm (w) x 193 mm (l), in mint condition.
