(L’union fait la force). Instituted in 1832. In 18 karat gold, Maltese cross in white enamel, each of the arms finished with two ball finials, laurel wreath in green and red enamel, centre shows crowned lion ringed by inscription “L’union fait la force”, reverse centre shows monogram “LLRR I”, inclusive of crown suspension 64.5 mm (h) x 39 mm (w), weighs 23.2 grams, on purple ribbon with rosette, evidence of chipping on obverse right arm and reverse left and right arm, very fine condition.
Footnote: The Order of Leopold I was established 11th of July 1832 by King Leopold I. It is the oldest and
highest order of Belgium and is awarded for military, maritime and civil service.
