International. A Large Lot of Medals & Awards

1.Romania, People’s Republic. An Order of Military Merit, III Class, Awarded to Ancuța Gh. Vasile. Five-point star in red enamel, surmounted on a gilded wreath, obverse center bearing the emblem of the Socialist Republic of Romania on a blue enameled background, surrounded by inscription MERITUL MILITAR on a yellow enameled background, on original pentagonal mount, 38.4 mm, evidence of scratches on reverse, extremely fine condition. Housed in the green box of issue, does not close properly, fine condition. Housed in a green scroll case is the document authenticating the medal’s recipient as Lieutenant Colonel Birzu Ioan Mihail. 

Footnote: The medal was instituted on 10 June 1954 and was awarded to members of the Romanian Armed Forces in recognition of long and meritorious service, but it was permanently suppressed following the collapse of the Socialist Republic in 1989.

2.Romania, People’s Republic. An Order of Military Merit, I Class. Gilded medallion, obverse bearing two crossed swords surrounded by a wreath with a five-point red star at the bottom, the abbreviation R.P.R at the top, reverse bearing the inscription MERITIUL MILITAR, on original pentagonal mount, evidence of some staining on blue ribbon, some light scratches on medallion, very fine condition. Housed in a red box, the exterior reads Medalia MERITUL MILITAR CL. I, fine condition. Included is the document authenticating the medal’s recipient as Lieutenant Major Ancuța Gh. Vasile.

3.Romania, People’s Republic. An Order of Labor RPR Badge, I Class, pre-1965. In bronze gilt with red and orange enamels, orange enameled center with emanating rays mounted on a red enameled scroll, obverse front in silver bearing the hammer and sickle between wreaths, RPR on red enameled scroll below, evidence of red enamel chipping, 46.5 mm (h) x 44 mm (w), vertical pinback, very fine condition. 

Footnote: The Order of Labor is a Romanian decoration established in 1948 and awarded for achievements considered exceptional in various fields of activity. 

4.Bulgaria. An Order of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria. Obverse centerpiece bearing a gilded lion rampant on a red enameled background, surrounded by gilded wreath topped by a star, mounted on silver emanating rays, on the original striped pentagonal mount, 40.1 mm, extremely fine condition. Housed in a burgundy box, fine condition. 

Footnote: The Order was instituted on 18 June 1947 and awarded to Bulgarians and foreign citizens for success and merits in different spheres of activity.

5.Bulgaria. An Order of People’s Freedom, II Class. Five-pointed star with silver rays at the corners, obverse centerpiece bearing the image of the poet Hristo Botev surrounded by the inscription За Народна Свобода 1941–1944 on a green enameled background, 57.4 mm, on original pentagonal mount, some enamel wear on silver rays, very fine condition. Housed in the original case of issue, writing in pen on the interior, fine condition. 

Footnote: The Order of People's Liberty was instituted on 14 September 1945 and could be awarded to Bulgarians who had proven themselves through courage and bravery during the liberation struggle before September 9, 1944. Foreigners could also be honored if they had rendered services to the Bulgarian people in the fight against fascism during the same period. 

6.Hungary, People’s Republic. An Order Of Merit Of The Socialist Motherland. Five-point star in red enamel with silver rays in each corner, obverse centerpiece bearing the Hungarian flag on a blue enameled background surrounded by a laurel wreath, topped by a red star, on original triangular ribbon, including ribbon bar with miniature, 35.8 mm, extremely fine condition. 

Footnote: It was awarded to Hungarian citizens and foreigners in recognition of meritorious service in the realm of international cooperation, as well as for service to the Hungarian People’s Republic.
