(Elefantordenen). Instituted in 1457. Hardshelled design on both the lid and base, octagonal-shaped, the exterior with a white pebbled covering on all sides, the edge of the lid trimmed in a fine gold-coloured rule, inside lid lined in crimson red satin, padded and maker marked "A. Michelsen / KGL HOF & ORDENSJUVELER / KJØBENHAVN" (Anton Michelsen, Copenhagen), a red fabric wrapped insert placed within the octagonal base, with a padded crimson red satin medal bed, push release closure, measuring 86 mm (w) x 86 mm (h) x 22 mm, light wear on the exterior, the interior without interruptions in the fabrics, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Elephant was instituted around 1462. The statutes establishing it as it is today were laid down by King Christian V, on December 1, 1693. Women were admitted to the Order on April 9, 1958. It is awarded to members of the Danish Royal Family, Heads of State and similar distinguished individuals.
