(Médaille commémorative de l'expédition du Mexique). Instituted in 1863. In silver, the obverse bearing the profile of Emperor Napoleon III surrounded by the relief inscription “NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR”, all within a laurel wreath, the reverse bearing the inscription CUMBRES CERRO-BORREGO SAN LORENZO PUEBLA MEXICO surrounded by the relief inscription EXPEDITION DU MEXIQUE 1862-3, hallmarked with an eagle's head on the reverse, 30.5 mm in diameter, on the original ribbon with an embroidered design bearing the Mexican eagle with snake, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Expedition to Mexico Commemorative Medal was instituted on August 29, 1863 and awarded for service in the Mexican Expedition of 1862-1863.
