Germany, Imperial. A Mixed Lot of First World War Patriotic Badges

(Abzeichen). A mixed lot of First World War patriotic badges, including:

1. An Austro-German alliance badge, constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a black enameled Cross Pattée trimmed with white enameled borders, the six o’clock arm bearing silvered a date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm bearing a silvered royal crown, overlaid by a central silvered medallion bearing raised and rightward-facing profiles of Kaiser Wilhelm II and Emperor Franz Joseph, the reverse with a clip hinge and horizontal pinback meeting a flat wire catch, marked “M”, measuring 28 mm (w) x 28 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

2. A second Austro-German alliance badge, constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a central black enameled German national eagle with details highlighted in gilt, topped by a crown, and flanked by Austrian and Hungarian flags, the reverse with a clip hinge and horizontal pinback meeting a flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 36 mm (w) x 30 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

3. An Austro-Hungarian patriotic badge, constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of a medallion bearing a raised and rightward-facing profile of Emperor Franz Joseph, situated above a laurel leaf wreath, and topped by a crown flanked by Austrian and Hungarian flags, the reverse with a clio hinge and horizontal pinback meeting a flattened catch, unmarked, measuring 32 mm (w) x 26 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
