Description
Description
(Preußen Schirmmütze für Mannschaften der Infanterie). A well-preserved Prussian Infantry visor cap, constructed of dark blue wool. The cap features reinforced side walls fully lined on the exterior with a red wool cap band. Both the top edge of the cap band and outer edge of the crown are trimmed with red wool piping. Pinned onto the peak is a non-magnetic metal cockade painted in an Imperial red, white, and black tri-colour, measuring 20 mm in diameter. Directly below the peak, the centre of the cap band is pinned with an additional non-magnetic metal cockade painted in a black and white Prussian motif, similar measuring 20 mm in diameter. A protruding vulcanfibre completes the exterior features, and is finished in a textured black on the obverse, and in a brown crosshatch on the reverse. A brown leather sweatband surrounds the interior of the walls, while a beige oilcloth liner encompasses the crown. The latter retains a fully-intact maker’s mark of “CARL RAUSCHKE, MARKT 4, ANGERMÜNDE”, topped by an elaborate logo. Notably, the crown also retains a paper label bearing a rank, owner’s name, and unit of “MUSKETIER PAPE, 11. KOMP., INF.-REGT. 64”. The cap measures approximately 23 cm (w) x 24.5 cm (l) x 11.5 cm (h). Minor material fatigue is visible throughout the exterior wool and to the sweatband, but this fine-quality, owner- and unit-attributed visor cap remains in an overall near extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Infanterie-Regiment 64 was officially designated as Infanterie-Regiment General-Feldmarschall Prinz Friedrich Karl von Preußen (8. Brandenburgisches) Nr. 64 during the First World War.
