In porcelain, a large white bulbous vase with lid, featuring a central iron cross with surmounting crown and the dates 1914 and 1915 on each side, a wreath below with patriotic flags on each side, the bottom is marked with the crossed swords of Meissen, the lid features a floral pattern and small spade shaped top with blue detailing, measures 210mm (w – across middle), 85mm (diameter of opening), 230mm (h – without lid), 230mm (h – including lid), weighs 1226.5 grams, light staining, no chips or cracks, remains in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Meissen was established in 1710 and was the premier porcelain factory in Saxony. From 1861-1864, a new factory was built in Meissen’s Triebischtal valley. During the war, patriotic housewares and table wares were created to bolster spirit and demonstrate support. Following the end of the war and the fall of the German Monarchy, the name was changed to Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen. The company is still active today and the brand is held in the highest regard.
