(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 I. Klasse). Re-Instituted August 5th, 1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of iron and silver, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with an elongated barrel hinge, straight vertical pinback, and right-ward opening round wire catch, marked KO under catch, measuring 43.0 mm (w) x 42.8 mm (l), weighing 15.55 grams.
Accompanied by its presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden core with a lightly textured black faux leather exterior, the exterior of the case embossed with the outline of a Cross Pattée, the interior of the lid in padded silk-rayon blended material, with a functional exterior metal hinge, intact interior fabric hinge cover, and functional but stiff push-button release, with a purple felted and vertically recessed medal bed for plush seating of the Iron Cross 1914 I. Class, measuring 65 mm (w) x 64 mm (l)
