(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 II. Klasse mit Etui). Reinstituted 5 August 1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, the suspension loop maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “3” for Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid, measuring 44.05 mm (w) x 48.42 mm (h), weighing 15.6 grams, accompanied by a period presentation case, constructed of a wooden frame with a faux black leather exterior liner, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, the former maker marked “E.F. WIEDMANN, MÜNZ-PRÄGE-ANSTALT, FRANKFURT A. M.”, with a depressed black velvet medal bed, closing with a functional spring catch with exterior stud release, measuring 72 mm (w) x 72 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), a superb and high-quality veteran’s replacement piece produced c. 1940 in near mint condition.
