(Ordensschnalle). A medal bar for a distinguished combatant of the German Wars of Unification, featuring five decorations, including;
1. An 1870 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1870”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1870”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, unmarked, measuring 41.98 mm (w) x 47.29 mm (h), demonstrating minor surface oxidation throughout the core, in better than very fine condition; affixed to the ribbon is a 25th Jubilee Clasp, constructed of a silver alloy, the obverse consisting of three overlaid oak leaves, bearing a central raised number “25”, measuring 26.40 mm (w) x 18.40 mm (h) and retaining both original attachment prongs, in extremely fine condition.
2. A Prussian 25-Year Long Service Award for Officers, constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms, the obverse bearing a central raised monogram of King Friedrich Wilhelm III, the reverse bearing a central raised number “25” in Roman numerals, unmarked, measuring 37.12 mm (w) x 41.72 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
3. A War Commemorative Medal for Combatants of 1870/71, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon pinned with Weissenburg, Wörth, Sedan, Mont-Valerien, and Paris campaign clasps, unmarked, measuring 30.46 mm in diameter, in near extremely fine condition.
4. An 1866 Commemorative Cross for the Main Campaign, constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension with its original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 34.26 mm (w) x 41.70 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
5. A Kaiser Wilhelm I Centenary Medal, constructed of gilded bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 39.0 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
All suspended from a 150 mm-long bar with a bronze core, horizontal pinback, and red wool reverse liner, demonstrating moderate soiling throughout the ribbons and liner, an untouched and original example for a experienced participant of the military campaigns which led to the formation of modern Germany in very fine condition.
