Baden, Grand Duchy. An Order of the Zähringer Lion, Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves Miniature in Gold, c.1900

(Orden vom Zähringer Löwen, Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub Miniatur in Gold). Instituted 26 December 1812 by Grand Duke Karl Friedrich. (1866-1918 issue). Constructed of 14K Gold with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a narrow Cross Pattée with its arms joined through the quadrants by arabesque latticework, the obverse with green enameled arms, bearing a central white enameled medallion with a detailed and hand-painted depiction of Zähringen Castle, within a ribbed gilt ring, the reverse bearing a central red enameled medallion, within a ribbed gilt ring, the twelve o’clock arm topped by an integral loop connecting to a suspension ring emanating from Oak Leaves, unmarked, the cross measuring 16.15 mm (w) x 17.65 mm (h), the clasp measuring 12.70 mm (w) x 11.85 mm (h), weighing 2.6 grams overall, the reverse medallion is missing its lion device, a superb miniature in near extremely fine condition.
