Document printed in black ink on a moisture-resistant parchment, with individualized inscriptions in handwritten black ink, illustrating a line drawing of the French Trophy of Arms at the top centre, flanked by a line drawing of the obverse of the Hohenlohe House Order of the Phoenix at the upper left and the reverse of the order at the upper right, the document designed with the text in German on the left side and in French on the right side, divided by a vertical column of icons.
The document states that the Knight's Cross of the Hohenlohe Order of the Phoenix was awarded by Louis Aloysius, Prince of Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Bartenstein, to Sieur Louis Victor Sanque de Jonquiere, signed in Paris on September 25, 1816 by three men, the Prince Grand Master of the Order, Louis Prince of Hohenlohe-Bartenstein, along with the General Commissioner of the Order, A. of T. Montuleuber at the lower left and the His Highness, the Secretary General Leroux at the lower right. Beside the signature of the Prince is a large red wax seal bearing the crowned coat-of-arms of Hohenlohe and secured in place by a slotted insert white leather tab support on the reverse.
The left side in inscribed in German "WIR LUDWIG ALOYS FURST ZE HOHENLOHE-WALDENBOURG-BARTENSTEIN, Senior und Gross-Meister unsers Haus-Ordens, Ritter Commandeur des Heligen Geistes, des Michaelis und Ludwigs Ordens, General-Lieutenant und Oberster Obrister einer Infanterie Legion unsers nahmens in Koeniglichen Frantzoesischen Dienste, Gross-Krentz des Russischen Anna, des Baierischen Huberts und des Hessischen Loewens Orden, etc., etc. / Auf dengemachten vortrag unseres Capitels des furstlichen Hohenlohischen Phoenix Ordens der Frantzoesischen zunge, und uns unterlegten vortheilhaften zeugnisse des herrn Ludwig Victor Sanque de Jonquieres eines theils underprobten rechtschafenheit und ergebenheit seinem rechtmassigen fürsten, so wie anhaenglichkeit für unsers furstliches haus, ertheilen hiemit demselben auf sein verlagen zum beweise unserer besonderen actung die würde eines Ritters und den rang seit, dem füuf und Zwanzigsten September ein tausend achthundert und sechzehn zuhalten. / Zur bekraefligung dessen haben wir, demselben gegenwaertiges Patent unter heutigen dato ausfertigen lassen mit unserem wappen besiegelt und Eigenhandig unterschrieben. / Gegeben zu Paris dem 25ten September 1816", the right side inscribed in French "NOUS LOUIS ALOYS, PRINCE DE HOHENLOHE-WALDENBOURG-BARTENSTEIN, Senior et Grand-Maitre de l'Ordre de notre Maison, Chevalier des Ordres du Roi de France, Lieutenant-Général de ses Armées et Colonel supérieur de la Légion de notre nom au service de France, Grand-Croix de Ordres de Saint-Anne de Russie, de Saint-Hubert de Bavière, et du Lion de Hesse, etc., etc. / Sur la présentation de notre Chapitre de la Langue Française, de l'Ordre de notre Maison, et sur le compte avantageux qui nous a été rendu sur la personne du Sieur Louis Victor Sanque de Jonquiere de sa probité reconnue, et de son dévouement à son Souverain légitime, comme aussi de son attachement à notre maison, et voulant lui donner une marque de notre Parfaite, considération, l'avons, par ces présentes, nommé et nommons, d-aprés la demande qu'il en a faire, Chevalier de i'Ordre de notre Maison-din du Phénix à prendre rang du Vingt Cinq Septembre mille Huit Cent Seize. / En foi de quoi nous lui avons fait délivrer aujourd'hui le présent Brevet signé de notre main, et auquel nous avons fait apposer le Sceau de nos Armes. / Donné à Paris, le 25 Septembre 1816.".
The document measures 405 mm (w) x 304 mm (h) and has experienced some age soiling after over two hundred years of existence, along with two vertical fold marks and a central horizontal fold mark from storage, but shows no signs of tearing, the wax seal with some crazing but remains fully intact. Very fine.
