Ehrenmedaille. Instituted in 1809. In bronze, obverse illustrating 6 and 7 cannonballs flanking the base of the trophy of arms, the particular number of cannonballs designating it as the unofficial type III version, surrounded by the inscription "FÜR TAPFERKEIT UND GUTES BETRAGEN", reverse illustrating the intertwined letters "HN" surmounted by a crown forming the royal cypher, the date "1809" below, within an open-ended wreath formed by a branch of oak leaves and acorns on the left and laurel leaves on the right, measuring 33 mm (w) x 44.7 mm (h) inclusive of its laterally-pierced ball suspension, spotting on the obverse, residue in the recessed areas of the reverse from cleaning, ball suspension period repair, good/fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
