A grouping of two medals and awards, consisting of 1) A Hindenburg Cross “Ehrenkreuz des Weltkriegs 1914/1918” Widow’s Cross; a blackened metal (magnetic) cross pattée with crossed swords between the arms of the cross; the obverse inscribed with “1914/1918” within an open-ended laurel wreath; the reverse plain; maker marked with an unknown mark on the reverse; on a loop for suspension, with a widow’s ribbon; measuring 38.00 mm (w) x 37.82 mm (h); weighing 13.1 grams. 2) A 1897 Prussian Kaiser Wilhelm Centennial Medal (Kaiser Wilhelm Erinnerungsmedaille-Zentenarmedaille); a gilt bronze medal; the obverse with a leftward facing bust of Kaiser Wilhelm, inscribed “Wilhelm der Grosse Deutscher Kaiser, Koenig von Preussen” (German - Wilhelm the Great German Kaiser, King of Prussia); the reverse inscribed “Zum andenken an den hundertsten Geburtstag des Grossen Kaisers Wilhelm I, 1797 - 22 Maerz 1897 (German - In remembrance of the one hundreth birthday of Wilhelm I); measuring 40.00 in diameter; weighing 34.3 grams. The cross well preserved with the gilt mostly worn off the medal; in overall near extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
