(Fürstlich Reußisches Ehrenkreuz, Silberne Verdienstmedaille mit Schwertern und Etui). Instituted 24 May 1869 by Prince Heinrich XIV. (1909-1918 issue). Constructed of silver, the obverse bearing a central raised and crowned monogram of Prince Heinrich XIV, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENST” (“FOR MERIT”), situated within a circular laurel leaf wreath, topped by an integral loop fastened with a crossed sword clasp, in turn culminating in a suspension ring retaining a period original ribbon, unmarked, the medal measuring 32.82 mm in diameter, the sword clasp measuring 36.05 mm (w) x 12.74 mm (h), weighing 19.8 grams overall, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a light wooden frame with a faux maroon leather liner, the lid bearing a gilt coat of arms and initials “S. M.” situated above crossed swords, the interior with a blue satin lid liner and intact hinge cover, the former maker marked “BURY & LEONHARD, HOFJUWELIERE, HANAU”, with a depressed dark blue velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, measuring 60 mm (w) x 80 mm (l) x 24 mm (h), demonstrating minor material fatigue to the exterior of the case, a complete set in extremely fine condition.
