(Silberne Verdienstmedaille für Kunst und Wissenschaft mit Lorbeerkranz). Instituted March 1905 by Duke Carl Eduard. (1911-1918 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a circular laurel leaf wreath, the obverse bearing a raised and rightward-facing profile of Duke Carl Eduard, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “FUER KUNST UND WISSENSCHAFT” (“FOR ART AND SCIENCE”), unmarked, measuring 32.10 mm (w) x 32.49 mm (h), weighing 13.3 grams, in extremely fine condition.
