In response to evolving domestic opinion, eMedals Inc has made the conscious decision to remove the presentation of German Third Reich historical artifacts from our online catalogue. For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. We acknowledge the growing sentiments put forth by the Canadian public and have taken proactive actions to address this opinion.

Description
Description
(Verdienstorden der Bayerischen Krone). Established on 19 March 1808 by King Maximilian Joseph I. (1808-1918). Manufactured as a museum specimen, a chain meant to accompany the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown constructed of gilded silver, alternating links consisting of the initials of the founder (“M J”), the Bavarian crown, and green laurel wreaths containing the capital letters of the motto “Virtus et Honos” in light blue on a white background. When it is connected, the chain’s length measures approximately 482.60 mm and is in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Scholars debate the creation of the chain for the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown. In Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen, Jörg Nimmergut argues that the chain only exists in sketches of the Royal Coat of Arms and denies Maximilian Gritzner’s claim in Handbuch der Ritter- und Verdienstorden aller Kulturstaaten der Welt that recipients wore the chain on solemn occasions. Alternatively, in The Book of Orders of Knighthood and Decorations of Honour, Bernard Burke describes the chain and includes an illustration depicting three links.
