(Oldenburger Haus- und Verdienstorden, Ritterkreuz I. Klasse in Gold). Instituted 27 November 1838 by Grand Duke Paul Friedrich August. (1838-1918 issue). Constructed of 14K Gold with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Cross Pattée with white enameled arms, the obverse bearing a central blue enameled medallion overlaid by a Gold monogram of Grand Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig, surrounded by a red enameled ring bearing a gilt inscription of “EIN GOTT, EIN RECHT, EINE WAHRHEIT” (“ONE GOD, ONE RIGHTEOUSNESS, ONE TRUTH”), in turn situated within dual Gold rings, the reverse bearing a central white enameled medallion overlaid by a hand-painted and multi-coloured Oldenburg coat of arms, situated within a Gold ring, the arms overlaid by hand-painted gilt dates of “21. MAI 1829”, “27 NOV. 1838”, “6 JUL. 1785”, and “17. JAN. 1755” clockwise from the three o’clock arm, the twelve o’clock arm topped by an eyelet connecting to a crown suspension topped by a loop, in turn retaining a period original ribbon, unmarked, the cross measuring 39.66 mm (w) x 42.91 mm (h), the crown measuring 20.55 mm (w) x 19.24 mm (h), weighing 15.1 grams, demonstrating minor flecking to the enamels with some surface scratching to the obverse twelve o’clock arm, a striking and jeweller-quality example in extremely fine condition.
