Germany, Federal Republic. A Lot of Four Awards and Badges, by Rudolf Souval, Exhibition Examples, c. 1970

A lot of four awards and badges, Post May 1945 manufacture - c. 1970 issue, consisting of:

1. A Combined Luftwaffe Pilot and Observer Badge. (Flugzeugführer und Beobachterabzeichen). Constructed of gilded and patinated white metal, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak wreath joined together at the base by a ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two pins instead of rivets, with a vertical pinback, unmarked, measuring 68.9 mm (w) x 52.0 mm (l), weighing 28.93 grams, in near mint condition. 

2. A Horseman’s Badge in Silver (Reiterabzeichen in Silber). Instituted April 9th, 1930. Constructed of gilded white metal, the obverse consisting of an oval oak wreath, joined together at the base by a encircled “R” with a central two-wheel chariot pulled by two horses, with an integral hinge, vertical pinback, and right-ward opening flat wire catch, unmarked, measuring 42.8 mm (w) x 51.1 mm (l), weighing 17.26 grams, in near mint condition.

3. A NSFK Glider Badge. (NSFK Segelfliegerabzeichen). Instituted January 26th, 1942. Constructed of silvered and enameled white metal, the obverse consisting of a circular oak wreath joined together at the base by a NSFK insignia in the form of Icarus, overlaid by a mobile swastika and topped by a banner bearing an inscription of “NSFK”, with the wreath overlaid by two white-enameled gulls, the reverse with a vertical pinback, unmarked, measuring 45.0 mm in diameter, weighing 22.46 grams, in near mint condition. 

4. A German Imperial Colonial Badge, constructed of silvered white metal, the obverse bearing a leftward-facing elephant with oak leaves underneath and a banner overhead inscribed “Südsee - Afrika - Kiautschou”, the reverse with a vertical pinback, unmarked, measuring 33.9 mm (w) x 37.5 mm (l), in near mint condition. 

Footnote: Rudolf Souval was a predominant manufacturer of medals, awards, and badges during the Second World War. Following the end of the war in Europe in May 1945, Rudolf Souval continued manufacturing certain awards using wartime parts and dies for American G.I’s stationed in Europe.
