(Post May 1945 manufacture - c. 1970 issue). A lot of three Third Reich exhibition medals, awards, and badges by Rudolf Souval of Vienna, consisting of:
1. A General Assault Badge (Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen). Instituted June 1st, 1940. Constructed of silvered white metal, the obverse consisting of an oval oak wreath, surrounding a central Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, situated above a crossed bayonet and stick grenade, the reverse with an integral hinge, vertical round wire pinback, and flat rightward-opening catch, unmarked, measuring 43.2 mm (w) x 54.0 mm (l), weighing 31.82 grams, with light to moderate cracks in the metal.
2. A Gold Grade Wound Badge (Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold). Instituted March 3rd, 1918. Constructed of gilded white metal, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel wreath, joined together at the base by a ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a sheet metal hinge, vertical round wire pinback, and flat rightward-opening catch, unmarked, measuring 39.2 mm (w) x 44.0 mm (l), weighing 28.58 grams.
3. A Horseman’s Badge in Gold (Reitterabzeichen in Gold). Instituted April 9th, 1930. Constructed of gilded white metal, the obverse consisting of an oval oak wreath, joined together at the base by a encircled “R” with a central two-wheel chariot pulled by two horses, with an integral hinge, vertical pinback, and right-ward opening flat wire catch, marked “L/53” for manufacture by Rudolf Souval in Wien, measuring 42.3 mm (w) x 51.2 mm (l).
A fine collection of Third Reich pattern medals, awards, and badges produced after the war by Rudolf Souval, in overall better than extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Rudolf Souval was a predominant manufacturer of medals, awards, and badges during the Second World War. Following the end of the war in Europe in May 1945, Rudolf Souval continued manufacturing certain awards using wartime parts and dies for American G.I’s stationed in Europe.
