Germany, Wehrmacht. A Mixed Lot of Awards

(Auszeichnungen). A mixed lot of awards, including:

1. A Black Grade Wound Badge, constructed of blackened zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a crimped barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch emanating from a crimped base, maker marked with the logo of Eugen Schmidthäussler, Pforzheim, measuring 36.96 mm (w) x 44.20 mm (h), weighing 19.3 grams, a rare example in extremely fine condition.

2. A Silver Grade Wound Badge, constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch emanating from a crimped base, maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “100” for Wächtler & Lange, Mittweida, measuring 35,96 mm (w) x 43.80 mm (h), weighing 22.5 grams, demonstrating minor loss of finish, in near extremely fine condition.

3. An Eastern Front Medal, constructed of silvered and patinated zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “WINTERSCHLACHT IM OSTEN 1941/42” (“WINTER BATTLE IN THE EAST 1941/42”), above a crossed sword and laurel branch, topped by a Stahlhelm and stick grenade, unmarked, measuring 36.11 mm (w) x 44.38 mm (h), weighing 21.6 grams, demonstrating near-total loss of finish, in very fine condition.

4. A Krim Shield, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a map of Crimea and southern Ukraine, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by dates “1941-1942”, the reverse retaining all four attachment prongs, affixing the shield to a magnetic metal backplate with a field-grey wool liner (indicating Heer issue) and intact black paper backer, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of a widely-documented variation produced by an unknown manufacturer, measuring 51.70 mm (w) x 61.67 mm (h), weighing 26.2 grams overall, in extremely fine condition.
