Description
Description
(Luftwaffe Dolch für Offiziere). An extremely well-preserved Luftwaffe Officer’s dress dagger, measuring 42.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 26.5 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains factory-original sharpening to both the edges and tip. The reverse ricasso bears a maker’s mark of “WKC, SOLINGEN” for the firm of Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie, circumscribing the company’s classic knight’s helmet logo. It sits securely within a silvered alloy crossguard, the obverse of which bears a raised Luftwaffe eagle, clutching a mobile swastika and executed in exceptional detail, with an intact brown leather buffer pad covering the seam. A single piece of ribbed light brown celluloid composes the handle grip, with the ribbing retaining an intact twisted and rolled wire core. The dagger completes with a rounded aluminum alloy pommel in the form of a double-sided wreathed mobile swastika, screwing in to maintain the dagger’s structural integrity. Wrapped around the handle is a matching portepee, consisting of a stylized silver aluminum wire acorn suspended from a cord of identical construction. Accompanying the dagger is its original scabbard, constructed of a pebbled and nickel-plated magnetic metal shaft. Dual integral oak leaf bands are situated just below the throat, each retaining a loop for the accommodation of a hanger. A functional spring catch situated within the throat firmly holds the dagger in place during storage. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include signs of cleaning and polishing to the blade, with some sporadic pitting, as well as some denting and surface oxidation to the scabbard. The dagger remains in a near extremely fine condition.
