Description
Description
(Luftwaffe Dolch für Offiziere mit Gehänge). A very well-preserved Luftwaffe Officer’s dress dagger, measuring 42.5 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 26.5 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and edges. The blade is maker marked on the reverse ricasso with the logo of Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie, Solingen. It sits securely within an aluminum alloy crossguard, the obverse of which bears a raised Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, with the seam covered by an intact black leather buffer pad. The handle grip consists of a single piece of ribbed brown celluloid, with the ribbon retaining and original twisted and rolled silver wire cord. It completes with a rounded pommel which bears a double-sided wreathed mobile swastika, screwing in to maintain the dagger’s structural integrity. The dagger is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of pebbled magnetic metal shaft. The upper third of the shaft has two integral oak leaf bands retaining loops for the accommodation of a hanger. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks to the blade and minor surface oxidation throughout the scabbard. It remains in an overall near extremely fine condition.
Accompanying the dagger is a matching hanger, consisting of a functional non-magnetic metal spring clip with two loops emanating from the lower edge. Descending from each loop is a strap constructed of slate-grey doeskin, topped by dark grey rayon and trimmed with machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire tresses. Each strap is adjusted with a zink buckle and completes with a functional spring clip to lock onto the scabbard’s loops. Unmarked, it measures 30 cm in total length. Loss of finish is visible to the metal fixtures and the straps demonstrate minor material fatigue, but it remains in an overall near extremely fine condition.
