Description
Description
(Sturmabteilung Ehrendolch mit Röhm-Widmung). A rare and stunning Sturmabteilung (SA) Röhm Honour Dagger, measuring 37 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 22 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip, and with consistent crossgraining visible from tip to base. The obverse bears an acid-etched inscription of “ALLES FÜR DEUTSCHLAND” (“EVERYTHING FOR GERMANY”) in Fraktur script. The reverse bears an acid-etched dedication of “IN HERZLICHER FREUNDSCHAFT” (“IN HEARTFELT FRIENDSHIP”) which remains unspoiled and fully legible. Also visible on the reverse ricasso is a maker’s mark of “J.A. HENCKELS, ZWILLINGSWERK, SOLINGEN”, circumscribing the firm’s classic twin logo. The blade sits securely within a nickel-silver upper crossguard which is marked with eight notches, distributed in groups of four at both the top and bottom. Stamped onto the reverse of the crossguard is a district code of “BO”, indicating distribution to SA-Gruppe Bayerische Ostmark. The handle grip is composed of a single piece of dark brown wood which is expertly carved into a curvature for a firm and comfortable grip. Inset into the obverse of the handle is a silvered German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 25 mm (w) x 15 mm (h). Also inset into the obverse pommel is a partially-silvered SA logo measuring 9 mm in diameter. The dagger completes with a nickel-silver lower crossguard, similarly marked with eight notches, retaining a pommel nut which screws in to maintain the dagger’s structural integrity. It is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a brown painted magnetic metal shaft. Nickel-silver fittings are secured to both the tip and throat with side rivets. Emanating from the throat is an integral loop which retains a period original hanger, consisting of a brown leather strap wrapped around a functional nickel-silver spring clip, with the strap length adjusted by a nickel-silver buckle. The throat also features a functional spring catch to firmly hold the dagger in place during storage. Minor running marks are visible to the blade, the scabbard shaft demonstrating faint scratching, and the hanger demonstrates age-appropriate material fatigue. Demonstrating the noted quality of the firm of J.A. Henckels, this rare, intact Röhm Honour Dagger remains in an extremely fine condition and is impossible to upgrade.
