(Infanterie greift an mit Unterschrift). A signed and dedicated copy of Infanterie greift an (Infantry Attacks), later-Generafeldmarschall Erwin Rommel’s seminal text on military tactics, constructed of a card stock binding with 399 paginated interior pages, the cover page bearing a handwritten dedication from Rommel to Dr. Otto Preissecker, then-professor of dental and jaw diseases in Vienna, a 1941 edition of the original published by Ludwig Voggenreiter, Potsdam, measuring 12 cm (w) x 19 cm (h), the spine has completely deteriorated resulting in the detachment of the cover and initial pages including the dedication, a scarce and interesting example in fair condition.
Footnote: Otto Preissecker was born on 3 August 1898 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary. After military service, he completed medical studies in his hometown and received a doctorate in 1923, before moving on to study dentistry and becoming a university assistant in dental studies. Notably, Preissecker was also a decorated figure skater, being joint World Champion from 1926 until 1926, winning further bronze medals in 1925 and 1928, in addition to being Austrian national champion in 1926, 1927, and 1928. He also received further distinctions in pair skating. In 1938, Preissecker qualified as a full professor following the completion of a thesis on the canine mandible, and was appointed a university lecturer in Vienna. He continued to hold various academic positions until his death in Innsbruck on 30 May 1963.
