Description
Description
(Heer Soldbuch). Constructed of a card stock binding with paginated interior pages filled with handwritten and stamped entries, retaining a certified black-and-white studio portrait of Neumann, notably closing with a pasted Royal Navy Identity Card indicating that Neumann survived the war and was taken into captivity by British forces, measuring 10 cm (w) x 14.5 cm (h), demonstrating material fatigue consistent with being carried on the bearer’s person during and after the war, resulting in loosening of pages and taped repairs, in very fine condition.
Footnote: Kurt Neumann was born on 3 September 1904 near Bautzen. He entered active Wehrmacht service on 21 October 1940 with Bau-Erstaz-Bataillon 4. He was later attached to Pionier-Bataillon 23 and Bau-Pionier-Bataillon 425, seeing service in occupied Norway with the latter, which ended the war as part of 6. Gebirgs-Division, where it surrendered to British forces after abandoning Finland. He attained the rank of Unteroffizier before concluding his service as a prisoner of war.
