Germany, Heer. A Pair of Wehrpässe, NSDAP Member and Iron Cross Recipient

(Wehrpässe). An interesting pair of Wehrpässe, including:

1. One constructed of a field-grey card stock binding with 54 paginated interior pages featuring handwritten and stamped entries to Johann Müller, a native of Schrobenhausen, Bavaria, who was born on 9 May 1918, entered Wehrmacht service in 1939, and who served with Infanterie-Regiment 522 until 27 July 1942, was promoted to Gefreiter on 1 November 1940 and Unteroffizier on 1 May 1941, and who received the 1939 Iron Cross II Class on 10 August 1941, retaining a certified studio portrait of Müller, measuring 10.5 cm (w) x 15 cm (h), accompanied by Müller’s matching 1939 Iron Cross II Class award document, named to Müller as an Unteroffizier attached to 297. Infanterie-Division (to which Infanterie-Regiment 522 was attached), certified by the handwritten signature of Generalleutnant Max Pfeffer (Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, 4 December 1941; captured during the Battle of Stalingrad and died in Soviet captivity on 31 December 1955), Müller notably withdrawn from service in February 1942 after serving with a unit that was annihilated at Stalingrad, measuring 14 cm (w) x 20 cm (h), both demonstrating some material fatigue, in better than very fine condition.

2. One constructed of a field-grey card stock binding with 54 paginated interior pages filled with handwritten and stamped entries to Karl Leyh, a native of Schwäbisch Hall who was born on 17 March 1899, briefly served with Infanterie-Regiment 122 during and immediately after the First World War (7 May 1918-30 April 1919), was made available for Wehrmacht service in 1938, and who received the Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 for Combatant (20 April 1934), the War Merit Cross II Class (20 April 1940), and notably the NSDAP Long Service Award III Class for 10 Years (30 January 1940), retaining a certified studio portrait of Leyh, measuring 10.5 cm (w) x 15 cm (h), an attempt has been made to obscure the cover swastika for post-war use as an identity document, an unusual example issued to a faithful NSDAP member in near extremely fine condition.
