Description
Description
(Feuerschutzpolizei Bajonett). An extremely well-preserved Feuerschutzpolizei (Fire Protection Police) sawback dress bayonet, measuring 35 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 20.5 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains factory-original sharpening to both the tip and lower edge. The upper edge is serrated, and also demonstrates double-sided narrow fullers. The reverse ricasso bears a maker’s mark of “ORIGINAL EICKHORN, SOLINGEN”, circumscribing the firm’s classic logo of a squirrel clutching a sword. The blade sits securely within a nickel-plated non-magnetic metal hilt, with an intact blackened leather buffer pad covering the seam. The quillon is executed with a double hook in classic fire personnel design. Two pieces of pebbled black bakelite compose the handle grip, and are fastened in place with dual magnetic metal rivets. Accompanying the bayonet is its original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft. A downward-pointing hook emanates from the obverse just below the throat for the inclusion of a frog. The throat retains a functional spring catch to firmly hold the bayonet in place during storage. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include faint running marks to the blade and some scratching of the scabbard paint. This scarce example of a sawtooth dress bayonet remains in an extremely fine condition.
