The collection consists of: a sports competition award document from POW camp in Aliceville, Alabama (210x287mm, near extremely fine); an Honour Goblet award document (210x297mm, very fine); an Iron Cross 1st Class award document (140x200mm, near extremely fine); an Iron Cross 2nd Class award document (141x200mm, near extremely fine); a Front Flying Clasp for Bombers in Gold award document (148x210mm, better than very fine); a Front Flying Clasp for Bombers in Silver award document (147x209mm, better than very fine); an Air Gunner Badge with Lightning Bolts award document (148x210mm, better than very fine); a post war print of a photo of Haupt (101x48mm, mint); a handmade cigarette case (92x74x20mm).
The sports competition award document is named to Unteroffizier (NCO) Haupt for coming in 1st place in high jump at the competition of the 8th company in the POW camp of Aliceville, Alabama. It is dated to April 22, 1945 and signed by a sports warden, the name is illegible, and the company leader, his name is Edel.
The Honour Goblet award document is named to NCO Haupt and dated to August 12, 1944. It carries facsimiles of Göring and the Chief of the Luftwaffe Personnel Department, Generaloberst Bruno Loerzer.
The Iron Cross 1st Class award document is named to NCO Haupt of the 1st Squadron of Lehrgeschader (Demonstration Wing) 1. It is dated to March 5, 1944 and signed in blue ink by the Commander-in-Chief of Aerial Fleet 2, Generalfeldmarschall Wolfram Freiherr von Richthofen (1895–1945), a recipient of the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves. He was a distant cousin of First War flying ace Manfred von Richthofen, “the Red Baron”.
The Iron Cross 2nd Class award document is named to Obergefreiter (Corporal) Haupt of an Einsatzstaffel (Operational Squadron) of the 2nd Group of Kampfgeschwader (Bomber Wing) 100. It is dated to October 24, 1943 and signed in blue ink by the Commanding General of the 10th Air Corps, Generalmajor Alexander Holle (1898–1978), a recipient of the Knight’s Cross.
The Front Flying Clasp in Gold award document is named to NCO Haupt of the same unit as above. It is dated to November 16, 1943 and signed once more by Holle.
The Front Flying Clasp in Silver award document is named to Obergefreiter Haupt and dated to August 9, 1943. It is signed in black ink by a Group Commander and Oberstleutnant, the name and the Feldpost number of the unit are illegible.
The Air Gunner Badge with Lightning Bolts award document is named to Obergefreiter Haupt and dated to February 26, 1943. It carries a facsimile of the Chief of the Luftwaffe Personnel Department, General der Flieger Gustav Kastner-Kirdorf.
The photo is a studio portrait of Haupt showing him in his uniform in the rank of NCO.
The cigarette case is handmade from aluminum, most likely salvaged material. A picture was hand-carved onto the lid, showing a smoking man on a beach with a toy sailing ship. Cases like these were made by POWs to pass the time during imprisonment.
