Germany, Luftwaffe. A Ground Assault Badge, with Issue Package, by G.H. Osang

(Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe). Constructed of silvered and patinated zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a silvered Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, overlaying a stylized cloud from which a lightning bolt emanates and strikes the ground, the reverse with a single rivet securing the eagle in position, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch emanating from a circular base, maker marked “G.H. OSANG, DRESDEN”, measuring 43.12 mm (w) x 56.16 mm (h), weighing 36.4 grams, accompanied by its period original package of issue, constructed of beige paper stock, the exterior bearing an inscription of “ERDKAMPFABZEICHEN DER LUFTWAFFE” and a maker’s mark of “G.H. OSANG, DRESDEN”, measuring 85 mm (w) x 125 mm (h), demonstrating minor loss of finish to the obverse of the badge which creates a striking contrast with the badge’s features, a complete set in extremely fine condition.
