Germany, Luftwaffe. A Radio Operator and Air Gunner Badge by Wilhelm Deumer of Lüdenscheid

(Luftwaffe Fliegerschützen Abzeichen für Bordfunker. Instituted March 26th, 1939. Two-piece construction of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by mobile swastika, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a pair of lightning bolts, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with a slightly raised barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked “W. Deumer, Lüdenscheid” on the reverse of the eagle, measuring 41.2 mm (w) x 53.5 mm (l), weighing 26.18 grams, with nearly all of its original finished gone due to age and wear, the catch is bent and does not allow for the pinback to open, in overall near better than fine condition.
