Germany, Third Reich. An Order of the German Eagle, IV Class Breast Cross, by Gebrüder Godet

 (Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler, Brustkreuz IV. Klasse). Instituted 1 May 1937. 1943-1945 issue). Constructed of silver with enamels, the obverse consisting of a Maltese Cross with white enameled arms, joined through the quadrants by NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching wreathed mobile swastikas on white enameled discs, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, the pinback maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “21” for Gebrüder Godet, Berlin, flanked by a silver content number of “900”, measuring 49.43 mm (w) x 49.16 mm (h), weighing 28.9 grams, demonstrating chipping and cracking to the centre of the enamels, with loss of gilt finish to the silver base, in very fine condition.
