Description

(Medaille des Deutschen Roten Kreuzes). Instituted 6 April 1937 by Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. (1937-1939 issue). Constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Geneva Cross, the obverse with red enameled arms joined through the quadrants by a circular white enameled ring, bearing a central black enameled DRK-style German national eagle clutching a gilt wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse with a pebbled finish bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTE UM DAS DEUTSCHE ROTE KREUZ” (“FOR MERIT IN THE GERMAN RED CROSS”), unmarked, measuring 38.07 mm in diameter, weighing 17.5 grams, demonstrating minor flecking and surface scratching to the enamels, in near extremely fine condition.
