Description
Description
(Luftwaffe Generalleutnant Ledermantel). A well preserved Luftwaffe Generalleutnant greatcoat, constructed of multiple pieces of heavy grey leather with machine stitched reinforcements along the seams. It features a large turned-down collar that transitions into double breast flaps, with the reverse of the collar featuring the addition of a leather strap with snap-buttons to allow for closing of the collar during adverse weather conditions. The collar is flanked on either side with Luftwaffe Generalleutnant shoulder boards, sewn to the shoulder on one side and fastened to the coat via a nonmagnetic pebbled button, constructed of a cardstock core with a white wool exterior, topped by a single band of knotted silver aluminum wire piping, interwoven with two brands of gold bullion wire piping, and pinned with a single silvered pip, measuring 44 mm (w) x 100 mm (l). Hidden underneath the left breast flap is a 20 cm long zipper that allows access to a deep interior pocket. Each cuff features the addition of a leather strap with metal keepers to adjust the size of the cuff opening. At waist height on either side of the coat is a deep softly lined pocket secured by a flap without buttons, with the addition of two exterior belt loops for the accompanying belt. Each side of the coat opening features eight snap buttons, each marked “Stocko”, with the interior of the coat completely lined in grey rayon, including the sleeves. The interior also has one breast pocket per side, along with an additional pocket hidden on the bottom right flap of the coat. It measures approximately 43 cm across the shoulders (seam to seam), with a sleeve length of 66 cm, and an overall length of 133 cm. This overcoat is in worn condition, with fatigue in the leather throughout, some field repairs, in overall very fine condition.
