Description
Description
(Luftwaffe Sturmgeschützjacke für Mannschaften der Fallschirm-Panzer-Division 1. Hermann Göring). A well-preserved and late-war assault gun wrap issued to a member of the 1st Fallschirm-Panzer Division Hermann Göring, constructed of a field-grey wool cloth. It features a turned-down collar, transitioning into double breast lapels, which is flanked on each side by tabs. The former are constructed of white wool with buckram cores, are pinned with magnetic metal Danziger-style Totenkopf devices, and measure 40 mm (w) x 50 mm (l). The shoulders are topped by wool loops and pebbled zink buttons for the accommodation of straps which have been lost to time. A vertical slit is set into the cuff of each sleeve, and closes with two bakelite buttons for an adjustable fit. Stitched onto the upper right breast is an insignia consisting of a dark grey wool backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 100 mm (w) x 48 mm (h) and secured in place with factory-original zig-zag stitching. It closes with nine bakelite buttons on the right side meeting an array of hidden buttonholes on the left. The interior features a partial liner of multi-piece dark blue cotton construction, with a single pocket set into the right breast. Stamped onto the pocket is a Luftwaffenbekleidungsamt (Luftwaffe Clothing Depot) Sonneberg logo, flanked by a date of “44”, and topped by size dimensions. Straps inset with reinforced eyelets descend from the armpits for the addition of an optional belt hanger, while rayon straps emanating from the waist provide an internal belt. The wrap measures approximately 45 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 58 cm, and an overall body length of 58 cm. Minor material fatigue is visible to the base material, and the metal devices demonstrate some oxidation, but this late-war example, demonstrating the scarcity of wartime material, remains in a near extremely fine condition.
