Description
(Waffen-SS Artillerie/Sturmgeschütz/Schwere Flak Truppe Scharführer Uniform). A well preserved example of an uniform for a member of the Waffen-SS Artillery, Assault Gun, or Heavy Flak corps, consisting of:
1. A tunic, constructed of field-grey wool, featuring a turned-down collar flanked by matching collar tabs, consisting of a right insignia tab and a left rank tab, each constructed of a buckram core, the exterior of the tabs constructed of black wool, with the obverse of the right tab bearing dual Sig runes constructed of silver aluminum bullion wire, the left tab featuring a silver-coloured non-magnetic rank pip placed above a silver aluminum wire tresse bisected by a black threaded band in the center, denoting the rank of SS Scharführer. Secured to the shoulders is a matching set of slip-on shoulder straps via a single loop sewn onto the tunic, as well as a single magnetic field-grey pebbled button. The shoulder straps are constructed of a black wool topper and a field-grey wool core, with red piping and a strip of silver aluminum wire tresse running along the outer edges of the straps. The underside is constructed of field-grey wool and black tongues constructed of black wool and rayon material, measuring 100 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). The left sleeve is adorned near the shoulders by a Waffen-SS eagle, constructed of black wool with silver-grey machine embroidery in the shape of an eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 85 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). The two sides of the tunic are secured together using a series of four larger and two smaller green bakelite buttons that are met by reinforced button-holes on the opposing flap. The interior is partially lined by a matching field-grey cotton liner on either side of the tunic allowing for a small interior pocket on the left side. Along the interior of the tunic are a set of two inset channels with a drawstring on either side to allow for adjustment of the tunic. It measures approximately 42 cm across the shoulders (seam to seam), with an arm length of 62 cm (seam to cuff), and an overall body length of 62 cm.
2. A pair of trousers, equally constructed of field-grey wool twill. The waistband features a total of seven belt loops with an integrated belt system on either side of the reverse, consisting of dual side wool straps looped through magnetic keepers for an adjustable fit. These trousers feature three pockets, one on either side on the front, along with one more on the right side of the reverse, all secure shut via a flap and magnetic metal buttons. The front is secured via a total of four magnetic metal buttons (missing one) on the right flap, meeting reinforced buttonholes on the opposing side. The interior is completely unlined, marked “226, 84, 90, 106, 112” with a partially black faded stamp on the waistband. The trousers measure approximately 47 cm across the waist, with an inseam of 86 cm, and an overall length of approximately 112 cm.
This uniform is in gently worn condition, with light fraying of the fabric along the seam on the waistband and by the ankles of the trousers where the bootstraps meet the pant leg, in overall extremely fine condition.
