Description
Description
(Wehrmacht Waffenrock eines Generals). A well-preserved field tunic belonging to a General of the Wehrmacht. It is constructed of fine, high quality, field-grey woven wool fabric, and features a traditional turned-down collar fully lined on the top with a layer of dark green wool. The collar is flanked on each side by elongated tabs constructed of red wool with buckram cores, both topped by gold bullion wire litzen. The shoulders are topped by slip-on style shoulder boards constructed of a stiff cardstock core with the exterior entirely lined with red wool. Each board features silver aluminum wire piping interwoven with two lengths of gold bullion wire piping. The boards are decorated further with dual rank pips, one of which is original to the shoulder boards, with the other added at a later date. They are secured to the tunic via the attached loop, as well as a singular gilded pebbled magnetic button per side. The sleeves of the tunic are undecorated, but feature a cuff at the end of each sleeve with a depth of 15 cm, secured in place with two stitches per side. It features a total of four externally mounted pleated pockets, two at breast height and two at waist height, and are secured shut via a scalloped flap and a singular gilded pebbled magnetic button per pocket. Stitched in place just above the upper right pocket is a Wehrmacht General’s eagle, consisting of a dark green wool backer bearing a hand-embroidered gold bullion wire Wehrmacht eagle with open wings clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The left breast pocket is ordained with two small holes and two vertically mounted loops, and five horizontally oriented loops for the attachment of awards. The tunic closes at the front with five gilded pebbled buttons that meet an equal number of reinforced horizontal-slit buttonholes on the left flap. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece rayon liner which consists of a gently ribbed grey-coloured fabric through the torso, transitioning into a pinstripe design through the arms. The inside of the left flap features an integrated horizontal-slit pocket featuring a maker’s label reading “Kuhn & Nupnau, München”, but is otherwise unnamed. It measures approximately 37 cm across the shoulders (seam to seam), with an arm length of 60 cm, and an overall body length of 75 cm. The tunic demonstrates only minor signs of age and wear, remaining in overall extremely fine condition.
