Description
Description
(Reichswehr Artillerie Stabsgefreiter Uniformrock). An extremely well preserved Reichswehr Officer’s service tunic, made out of field-grey wool, featuring a turned-down collar with a set of matching officer’s collar tabs constructed of bright red wool with a buckram core and dual silver aluminum bullion wire insignia, measuring 32 mm (w) x 68 mm (l). Secured to the shoulders is a matching set of sewn-on shoulder straps, with the obverse constructed of forest-green wool, the regiment number “22” embroidered in red, matching red piping along the exterior, and attached to the tunic via a single non-magnetic button, measuring 45 mm (w) x 95 mm (l). The left sleeve is adorned near the shoulders by a Gefreiter rank chevron, constructed of forest-green wool with two silver aluminum bullion tresses in a “V” formation, and with a single silvered bronze pip in the center, measuring 80 mm (w) x 75 mm (l). Directly below, near the cuff, are two more chevrons, equally constructed of silver aluminum bullion tresses, with a central green stripe in both. This tunic features a total of four pockets, two per side, all secured shut via a scalloped flap and a magnetic pebbled button. The left breast pocket features a bronze grade DRL (Deutsche Reichsauszeichnung für Leibesübungen) badge, constructed of bronze, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath joined together at the bottom by a mobile swastika around central stylized initials “DRL”, the reverse with a raised barrel hinge and a vertical pinback meeting a repaired (soldered) wire catch, and marked “L. CHR. Lauer, Nürnberg” and “M. SCH. No. 33918”, measuring 50mm (w) x 40 mm (l). The two sides of the tunic are secured together using a series of seven buttons (missing one, supplied in one of the pockets) that are met by reinforced button-holes on the opposing flap. The interior is lined with tan-coloured cotton, featuring two internal pockets, one per side. It is also stamped “100, 43, 44, 90, 64” and “H.B.A.B 1925” on the left side (likely the year of manufacture), as well as “RA 58” under the collar with the rest directly beneath crossed out and made illegible. It is also stamped “1926, JK 12, MB1” and “9.K” on the inside of the tunic along the right lapel opening. It measures approximately 45 cm across the shoulders (seam to seam), with an arm length of 58 cm (from seam to cuff), with an overall body length of 81 cm. This tunic is in worn condition, with the fabric displaying signs of fatigue and very light soiling throughout as expected from regular wear. Field repairs are also evident along the collar, as well as with some buttons, which have been re-sewn to the tunic, in overall very fine condition.
