Germany, Weimar Republic. A German Field Honour Decoration

(Deutsches-Feld-Ehrenzeichen). Constructed of silvered and gilded bronze with enamels, the obverse consisting of an elongated eight-pointed radiant star, the obverse bearing a central oval medallion overlaid by a raised German soldier in Stahlhelm and full field gear, surrounded by a pebbled gilt border, in turn forming the centrepiece of a white enameled Cross Pattée with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse applique in place, etched with an inscription of “DEUTSCHES FELD-EHRENZEICHEN” (“GERMAN FIELD HONOUR BADGE”), with a block hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, marked “HAMBURG 11”, measuring 52.58 mm (w) x 64.13 mm (h), weighing 31.5 grams,demonstrating loss of silver finish to the base metal, and fine cracking to the enamels of the three and nine o’clock arms, in better than very fine condition.
