Germany, Third Reich. An Anschluss Medal, with Case, by the Vienna Mint

(Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 13. März 1938 mit Etui). Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing two raised figures, one of which is clutching a flag and the other a length of broken chain, above a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central date of “13. MÄRZ 1938”, circumscribed by an inscription of “EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN FÜHRER” (“ONE PEOPLE, ONE NATION, ONE LEADER”), unmarked, measuring 31.98 mm in diameter, weighing 13.2 grams, accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilded German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, the base retaining a manufacturer’s label indicating production by the Vienna Mint, measuring 50 mm (w) x 105 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), demonstrating some tarnishing throughout the medal and the loss of the ribbon’s pinback, in overall better than very fine condition.
