United Kingdom. A Lot of Seven Collector’s Copies of Prestigious Military Medals and Awards
1. A Collector’s Copy George Cross. Instituted September 24th, 1940. A Greek Cross, constructed of cupro-nickel, the obverse with a central medallion depicting the effigy of St, George and the Dragon, surrounded by the words “For Gallantry” in capital letters, with the royal cypher in the quadrans between the arms of the cross, the reverse plain, marked “Copy”, measuring 45.8 mm (w) x 49.1 mm (l), weighing 39.96 grams.
2. A Collector’s Copy Victoria’s Cross. Instituted January 29th, 1856. A blackened bronze Cross Pattée, suspended from a dual swivel loop and slotted bar with a matching reproduction ribbon, the obverse consisting of a superimposed crown and lion and the motto “For Valour” within a ribbon sash, measuring 36.1 mm (w) x 40.7 mm (l), weighing 32.62 grams inclusive of its ribbon.
3. A Collector’s Copy Military Cross. Instituted December 28th, 1914. A Greek Cross, constructed of cupro-nickel, suspended from a dual swivel loop and slotted bar with a matching reproduction ribbon, the obverse consisting of a royal cypher in the center along with a royal crown at the tip of each of the arms, the reverse plain, marked “Copy”, measuring 42.3 mm (w) x 48.0 mm (l), weighing 23.17 grams.
4. A Collector’s Copy Distinguished Flying Medal. Instituted June 3rd, 1918. An oval medal, constructed of cupro-nickel, suspended from a single-toe claw attached to the center of the award with a slotted bar with a correct reproduction ribbon, the obverse depicting a leftward facing effigy of King George VI and circumscribed in latin with his name and title, the reverse depicting Athena Nike seated on an aeroplane, a hawk rising from her right arm above the words “For Courage” and inscribed “1918”, measuring 35.7 mm (w) x 50.7 mm (l), weighing 39.31 grams.
5. A Collector’s Copy Air Force Medal. Instituted June 3rd, 1918. An oval medal, constructed of cupro-nickel, suspended from a single-toe claw attached to the center of the award with a slotted bar with a correct reproduction ribbon, the obverse depicting a leftward facing effigy of King George VI and circumscribed in latin with his name and title, the reverse depicting Hermes mounted on a hawk in flight bestowing a wreath and inscribed “1918”, measuring 35.3 mm (w) x 49.6 mm (l), weighing 36.96 grams.
6. A Collector’s Copy Distinguished Flying Cross. Instituted June 3rd, 1918. A Cross Flory, constructed of cupro-nickel, suspended from a single-toe claw attached to the center of the award with a slotted bar with a correct reproduction ribbon, the cross terminating with bumps on the horizontal and bottom ends and with a rose on the upper bar, the obverse consisting of features aeroplane propellers superimposed on the vertical arms, and wings on the horizontal arms, the center is decorated with a laurel wreath around the RAF monogram and surmounted by a heraldic Imperial crown, the reverse is plain, marked “Copy” in capital letters, measuring 56.1 mm (w) x 63.0 mm (l), weighing 35.57 grams.
7. A Collector’s Copy Air Force Cross. Instituted June 3rd, 1918. A Cross Flory, constructed of cupro-nickel, suspended from a single-toe claw attached to the center of the award with a slotted bar with a correct reproduction ribbon, the cross consisting of four aeroplane propellers, the obverse depicting Hermes riding on the wings of a hawk holding a laurel wreath with a royal crown on the top arm and royal cyphers on the remaining three arms of the cross, the reverse plain, marked “Copy” in capital letters, measuring 55.4 mm (w) x 65.8 mm (l), weighing 39.30 grams.
