Instituted 1921. Type I, 1921-1944 issued. An enameled white Latin cross in silver gilt, with obverse centre featuring a silver gilded falcon on an enameled dark blue background, reverse depicting the cyphre of King Christian X on an enameled white back field surrounded by a enameled blue border inscribed FYRSTI DESEMBER 1918 (First December 1918), surmounted by detailed royal crown also in silver gilt, measuring 43.26 mm (w) x 80.82 mm (h - inclusive of the crown and integral cross), accompanied by original neck ribbon, with lost of gilt, very good.
Footnote: This is Iceland's only Order, and it was established by King Christian X of Denmark and Iceland in 1921. The Order was founded to recognize foreign or Icelandic individuals who have contributed outstanding services to Iceland within civil or military spheres. The Order's statutes were revised on July 11, 1944 with Iceland's transition into a Republic. The Order may be known as the Order of the Icelandic Falcon.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
