The M.S.V.N. Milizia Confinaria (Border Militia)/Milizia Di Frontiera (Frontier Militia). The dagger blade, cross guard and tang are all die struck one piece. Blade is highly polished, 18cm (7 inches) in length, while overall dagger measures 30cm (12 inches). There are few tiny nicks on the blade, overall in extremely fine condition. The cross guard has raised letters M.S.V.N., while reverse has horizontal Fasces; the grip is ivorine (for Generals), lower section broken off and missing. The scabbard is nickel plated, as are the other parts of the dagger. No nicks or damages to the scabbard, only signs of wear and moderate use. Attached to scabbard is leather strap, for belt attachment. A rare dagger.
Footnote: this dagger (one of 3) comes from the estate of the former Chief of Staff (initials M.C.) of the "Stato Maggiore della Milizia Confinaria", who died during WW2, due to illness contracted in the War, as a commanding Officer of the 137th Legion CCNN. (He was serving on the Balkans during WW2). Copy of his photo, obituary, and Italian Official Gazette listing his award will be provided to the buyer.
