(Ordine della Corona d’Italia). Instituted February 20th, 1868. (c. 1920 issue). A two-piece set with presentation case, consisting of:
1. A neck badge, constructed of 18kt Gold, with blue, green, red, and white enamels, suspended from a fixed loop and swivel ring suspension from its period original neck ribbon, consisting of a white-enameled hollow construction Gold cross with Gold knots in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a blue enameled centerpiece bearing a royal crown constructed of white, green, and red enamels, surrounded by a Gold ring, the reverse features a Gold central medallion bearing a black enameled eagle with a red and white enameled shield on its chest, surrounded by a matching Gold ring, unmarked, measuring 50.2 mm (w) x 52.7 mm (l), weighing 15.12 grams, in better than very fine condition.
2. A breast badge, constructed of silver and 18kt Gold, with blue, green, red, and white enamels, consisting of an eight-pointed star with ball finials, with a central medallion of the Order of the Crown of Italy, constructed of 18kt Gold, with blue, green, red, and white enamels, a white-enameled hollow construction Gold cross with Gold knots in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a blue enameled centerpiece bearing a royal crown constructed of white, green, and red enamels, surrounded by a Gold ring, the reverse plain with a raised hinge, tapered vertical pinback, and broad wire catch, marked “E. Gardino Succ. Cravanzola, Roma” on the central badge, measuring 74.6 mm (w) x 74.6 mm (l), weighing 56.10 grams, with light patina , in overall better than very fine condition.
3. A presentation case, contained within its presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden frame with a red faux leather exterior liner, the exterior of the lid with a gilded Royal Crown and the Royal cypher of King Vittorio Emanuele, the interior of the lid lined with off-white silk blended fabric marked “E. Gardino Succ. D. Cravanzola, Gioielliere, Roma” in black ink, with a functional exterior metal hinge, intact interior fabric hinge cover, functional exterior metal clasp, and recessed medal bed for placement of the awards, measuring 108 mm (w) x 222 mm (l).
An example of this award of fine craftsmanship, a complete set, without major signs of wear, in overall better than extremely fine condition.
